Justin case, Mayweather brings his good-luck charms

Going into what Floyd Mayweather would eventually describe as the toughest fight of his career, his escorts to the ring could, in theory, have been goofier. Assuming Rip Taylor, Jerry Lewis circa 1949 and Mushmouth from Fat Albert were available. Apparently they weren’t, because on May 5, the pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet marched into the ring at MGM Grand Garden Arena flanked by legit rapper Lil Wayne; Vitamin Water spokesman, we-think-he’s-still-a-rapper and BFF 50 Cent; professional fight faker Triple H; and Justin Bieber. Santana celebrates residency with mud

Carlos Santana kicked off his residency May 4, and House of Blues co-founder Dan Aykroyd and Woodstock co-founder Michael Lang combined mud from the Delta, Woodstock, N.Y., and Santana’s birthplace of Autlán de Navarro, Mexico, to consecrate the show. Read more »

Familiar names abound at clubs up and down the Strip … almost too familiar, with the same headliners bouncing between properties in a week. Thankfully, a fresh face will soon arrive on the scene in the form of Felix Cartal, coming to Las Vegas for Nectar Music Festival Saturdays at Hard Rock Hotel’s Beachlife pool complex. CinemaCon, the convention of theater owners that ran at Caesars Palace on April 23-26, brought a slew of A-list talent to the convention, including director Martin Scorsese, who revealed April 25 that he loved 3-D technology so much that if he had it to do all over again he’d shoot Taxi Driver and Raging Bull using the technique.
